Playing for a squad that Michael Campanile covered in-depth on Thursday, Richardson’s skill and substance caught my eye over the weekend. He’s two-handed, able to make things happen all over the offensive zone, and has a noteworthy feel for the game (though he could stand to be more consistent with his shot selection, if I were to nitpick). Slick and productive, he can beat his man off the dodge but also finish appropriately in close after creating shots with his sneaky off-ball prowess. His ability to create offense all over the field leads me to believe that he could be a standout at midfield as well, as he has demonstrated the athleticism to beat a short stick or take advantage of poor approaches when dodging poles.

Richardson is a Swiss Army Knife offensive prospect who can play attack or midfield and operate effectively with both hands. From attack, Richardson is comfortable initiating from the wing as well as from X. Richardson’s speed, deep bag of moves, and elite shooting skills make him a serious threat to score while on the move. Those same assets make it impossible to guard Richardson 1v1 with a close defender. Off ball, Richardson does a tremendous job of cutting behind defender’s helmets to create open looks in-close. As a midfielder, Richardson can dodge down the alley, push through contact and then fire on net. If the defense slides to him early, Richardson will deliver a dime to an open teammate on the backside. Richardson’s step-down shooting from up-top must be respected too.
