Helping make up Iona Prep’s bash brothers on defense with his twin brother Jake, Austin was constantly putting himself in the mix, hunting ball-carriers with a high motor and preventing Don Bosco from gaining offensive rhythm. He came out of nowhere to cause a turnover with viciousness early in the game and showed elusiveness and strong stick protection when moving the ball upfield. His slides were well-timed, his approaches were sound, and he did a good job adjusting his style of play depending on the defensive package. He’s just incredibly active, though there are times he tends to swing his stick around and get himself in trouble. Time will tell, but I’ll be curious to see if he winds up at close D or LSM at the next level.

There’s just an overall commanding presence about Davies that jumped out to me, as his playmaking set the tone all day for his Hawkeyes team, for which he played alongside his twin brother, Jake. In the last game of the day, Austin asserted himself with a clean interception that directly led to a transition goal by Nash Parker on the other end. He was strong off-ball and formidable in coverage, moving his feet and hips well to match quick dodgers and putting himself in the position to hinder their scoring ability. Davies is impactful and active with his stick, catching his opponent slipping with a smooth trail check to jar the ball loose on more than one occasion. He’s also exceptional as a communicator and played an integral role for his defense.
