Expert Analysis
Carey Smith | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Roth is a long and athletic Swiss Army knife offensive prospect with unlimited upside. Over the last year, Roth has proven that he can play as a two-way midfielder and at all three attack spots. Plus, Roth can generate offense as an initiator or off-ball. When Roth gets downhill from up top, his long strides allow him glide past the on-ball defender and into open space for a crank on the run. Roth’s height and enormous wingspan make it impossible for SSDM to stop him. At midfield, Roth’s powerful and accurate step downs / sidearms make him a serious long range scoring threat. When he bumps to attack, Roth is a master at sweeping from X to the back post for catch and dunk opportunities. Plus, Roth can work the high crease area for quick scoring chances. On transition opportunities Roth has demonstrated that he is a polished finisher. Roth’s ability to drop back and play SSDM for a stretch will catch the attention of college coaches.

Roth is a wiry, 6’3” sophomore with a versatile offensive skill set. One item that pops immediately about Roth is his ability to cut/drift / sit down in open space for quick catch and fire goals. His long wingspan and fantastic hand-eye coordination enable Roth to haul in even the most difficult passes and then squeeze off a shot. Roth’s quick release and ability to shoot from multiple angles leave goalies helpless during these scoring opportunities. On the perimeter, Roth’s powerful and accurate shot allows him to snipe from the wing. Plus, Roth has proven that he can initiate from X, turn a defender multiple times, and then dash around the corner for a dunk. Roth’s ability to feed cutters from X is one of his unappreciated skills.
