The uncommitted 6’3″ defenseman jumps out right away when you walk up to an NXT game, and he knows exactly how to use that length. The most impressive part of his weekend was how well he covered space—splitting two on the backside in transition and in sliding situations. His wingspan is a major advantage in passing lanes and in groundball scrums, where he scoops through traffic without much trouble. In the clearing game, he stayed calm, made the right reads, and never looked rattled by pressure.

This versatile pole was a plus player in numerous facets of the game is fall. Witzke’s athleticism, refined footwork and active stick enabled him to harass ball carriers all over the field. He was especially effective in 1v1 situations behind the net. Witzke also displayed a tremendous team defensive skill set. His physical slides and double teams frequently caused turnovers. Plus, Witzke generated deflections / steals by clogging up passing lanes with his stick. This skilled and high IQ defensive prospect cleared the ball via smart passes up the field as well as with his legs. Witzke’s tenacity and nifty stick skills enabled him to pick up ground balls in traffic.
