After a tumultuous but exciting start to the recruiting process in September, the end of the month and the start of October have seen a new wave of players make their college commitments. The ACC and the Ivy League have had their pick of the top prospects, but there are still plenty of quality lacrosse players out there for teams across the country to pounce on, figuratively speaking. Here are five of the latest impact commitments from the New England region.

A shifty and tenacious player, I've seen Bergey play for 2Way, and I have seen him sit defenders down like it was second-grade snack time. He doesn't even need a quickness advantage because he will find a way to get his shot off against almost anyone. There's a difference between scorers and shooters, and Bergey proves that the former is more valuable because they can always create their own chance. That's what every college coach is looking for in every attackman they pursue. Vermont got a really special kind of point producer in Bergey.

Long strides and a heavy left hand make Soderberg a tough defenseman to dodge on for bigger or smaller players. If you're a little shorter, he can keep you away from the cage with power checks and footwork, and if you're on the larger side, Soderberg can stay in the pocket and guide you away from the inside lane. With the ball, Soderberg has excellent control and awareness, knows the best time to bait a riding attackman, and how to roll right out of it into a perfectly lofted outlet. Like a lot of these rangy Lakes Region defenders, I think he's a perfect fit for the Patriot League.

When you hear coaches say words like "potential" and "ceiling," - they're talking about players like [player_tooltip player_id='171353' first='Thomas' last='Regan']. Listed as a midfielder, he can actually play all over the field. We saw Regan's Taft teammate Jake Gashi commit to UNC early in the window because he blossomed as a scorer this summer. Regan had a similar evolution, turning his wing play and transition ability into key strengths. You don't see a ton of players with Regan's size topping out the same effort meter the way he does. He is a true two-way midfielder who should thrive in those crucial moments between the boxes as the shot clock ticks away. Another amazing commitment from the Penn coaching staff.

A sought-after member of the Eclipse war machine, Baum was a terror to match up with in the open field. The fact that he was on the field with high-level guys in the attack spots meant that everyone knew where the ball was going, and no one could stop him from delivering it. If they did, they would have to contend with Baum spinning on his heel and firing a 10-yarder down the opposing goalie's throat. Committing to Navy at this juncture of the recruiting window is kind of surprising, but it's well deserved because he is joining an impressive class of Midshipmen.

I honestly thought DeVito had done enough over the spring and summer to warrant some more calls, but in the end, he's ending up on a great squad close to home. As direct a defenseman as you will ever see, DeVito does not shy away from any matchup, anywhere at any time. He plays lacrosse like a bouncer at a Miami nightclub. He doesn't just check guys; he tosses them aside like stray toys. The way DeVito matches stick to the inside is exceptional, forcing guys to roll away from any physical confrontation with excellent balance. I love watching him wait for the first move and then slam the dodging door shut on his man's fingers.
