2028 LSMs Who Stood Out This Summer, Part II

At NAL, Tyce Evins had a sweet lift-check takeaway against one of the top players in the class that immediately got my attention. Since then, I got another good look at him this weekend at the National All-Star Games for Team South, and there is a lot to like about his game. He is good for at least one caused turnover a game just from his on-ball presence. His footwork keeps him on dodgers, and he has a lot of ways to attack them through the rep. He likes to dictate matchups by starting with a hard poke; from there, he uses a strong V-hold or cross check to get into dodgers and knock them off their line. Even when ball carriers try to concede, he does a good job reading body language and closing out with one more hard slap to the hands that can turn an easy pass into a turnover. He is excellent in the ground game, where he finds open space to goose balls away from pressure, and his stick is legit enough to force defenses to respect him in transition, where he's known to put balls in the back of the net.     At the Sweetlax Summer Challenge, Diego Salinas made a big-time slide that caused a turnover in overtime against Legacy, and that play has stayed with me. Since then, I have come to appreciate the many layers to his game. The athletic lefty has made plays both on and off the ball on defense this summer. At NAL, he matched up well with one of the top midfielders in the class in the first round of the playoffs, and he showed his ability to close out with quick, controlled approaches in the championship against the West Coast Starz. His comfort with his pole shows up in every part of his game. He is aggressive on hands in matchups, quick to get his stick into passing lanes, and extremely comfortable with the ball in his stick.     Dorsainvil has been an LSM who has consistently shown up in the middle of the field this summer. Off the wings on face-offs, he has done a lot for Igloo. He is quick enough to make up ground and cut off breaks when his fogos get beaten clean; he uses his body well to box out in groundball scrums, and he wins a lot of groundballs by raking them out of traffic. At IMLCA, he showed the instincts to jump ball carriers for double teams and create turnovers against FCA Maryland and Hilltop. He is a natural mover on clears, where he keeps his stick away from pressure. His stick work is reliable enough to move the ball to attackmen, and he is not afraid to cut and force defenses to account for him on that end. On the other side, I love his 1-on-1 defense, while his off-ball defense was challenged against an active off-ball team like Hilltop. His feet are excellent, and he produces a ton of caused turnovers when he goes for his trail check.     Chavis' stock has risen after his showings at NILLY and the National All-Star Games this past week. He is a smaller, quicker LSM who shows up on ball and in transition frequently. At NILLY, he won a ton of face-offs with his pole because of his pressure, quickness to groundballs, and ability to pick them up cleanly on the first time. I saw him score a lot of goals across those two events, and he can do it in multiple ways because of his excellent stick work. He is effective as a stepdown shooter, especially when he goes straight overhand, and he has the hands to catch and finish inside. On the defensive end, he shows up on the ball with his aggressive checks and off the ball with his timed double teams. If he can prove he can handle bigger, stronger dodgers, he is going to draw a lot of attention at the next level.     I quickly identified Cummings this summer by the blonde hair flowing out of his Blue Ridge helmet. The Greensboro, N.C., native reclassed to the '28 group after joining the Barons in the fall, and he checks all the boxes you want in an LSM. He is an on-ball presence who gets into dodgers with physicality and stays aggressive on their hands. Cummings plays well off ball too, getting his stick into lanes, timing his slides, and using his body well when he has to slide. Off the ground, he seems to navigate his pole in impossible ways to avoid checks, and he pushes the tempo really well in transition with sure stick work and a shot you have to respect.
