Palo Verde Cruises in 12-3 Victory Over the Cougars

Palo Verde moved the ball around like clockwork at times against the Cougars on Tuesday night. Their ability to stay disciplined within their offensive sets paid dividends, as they methodically wore down the defense and consistently generated quality looks. At the X, Alex Connelly controlled possession by winning nearly every faceoff, further tilting the game in the Panthers' favor. Defensively, Palo Verde applied pressure at the right moments, forcing errant passes and keeping the Cougars out of sync. While the Cougars flashed brief stretches of success, they never fully found their rhythm. Palo Verde, meanwhile, kept its foot on the gas from start to finish, cruising to a 12-3 win. Below are five standouts from a Panthers group that continues to impress.

[player_tooltip player_id='171577' first='Brandon' last='Freitag'] has a clear knack for getting to the middle, using his strength to power through stick checks and create separation. Once his hands are free, he can really let it go. Generating a good amount of velocity on the run. Because so many of his looks come while dodging in traffic, it makes him tough for goalies to read and react to. Freitag also does a strong job of putting his chances on cage. Maximizing those opportunities. He finished with a pair of goals in what was another solid outing.

Tommy Cannon turned in a steady, impactful performance for the Panthers. Operating primarily from behind the cage against the Cougars. He kept the offense flowing with smart decisions and crisp, accurate passes, consistently helping generate quality looks. Cannon also showed strong off-ball instincts, sneaking in from behind the goal for a crease finish off a pinpoint feed from [player_tooltip player_id='171379' first='Luke' last='Rava']. Later in the second half, he capitalized in transition, burying another to give him two goals on the night. All in all, it was a composed and productive outing from the senior.

Slater Salinas delivered the shot of the night, capitalizing on a feed from [player_tooltip player_id='171379' first='Luke' last='Rava'] with zero hesitation. Ready on the catch, he flowed straight into his windup and ripped a perfectly placed shot into the top-left corner, a clean, high-level finish from the Palo Verde midfielder. Beyond that highlight, Salinas made his impact felt on the defensive end as well, applying consistent pressure and giving his matchups very little space to operate.

[player_tooltip player_id='171379' first='Luke' last='Rava'] was likely the player of the game, putting his skill on display as both a scorer and a distributor. He consistently kept his head on a swivel, reading the defense and creating for either himself or his teammates. As mentioned, he dished out a couple of assists to both Slater Salinas and Tommy Cannon. While also using his speed to get to his spots, finishing with three goals on the night.
