Walker Penhollow Delivers OT Game Winner for Bishop Gorman

The Cougars and Gaels duked it out last night at McCarran Marketplace under the lights. It was a tight battle early, and the Gaels jumped out in front first. However, the Cougars responded with goals of their own thanks to Jason Koa Hernandez. Both teams' offenses continued to trade punches the rest of the first half, and the Gaels went into halftime with a slight 7-5 advantage.   Things got even more competitive after the break, with the Cougars looking for any chance to close the gap and tie it up. Eventually, their pressure cracked the Gaels' defense. And after a thrilling second half with big-time goals from Tyson Morse and Greyson Weiss, it went to OT. With next goal winning, neither team had room for error. But freshman Walker Penhollow was left slightly open and he launched it in for the win. By coincidence, Gorman also beat the Cougars last season in OT thanks to a freshman ([player_tooltip player_id='124923' first='Ryan' last='Cambeiro']).   Final Score: Bishop Gorman 12 vs Cougars 11   I will be releasing an article later in the week on goalie and defensive standouts.    Walker Penhollow came up in the clutch for the Bishop Gorman Gaels last night. He was floating in the middle of the field during OT and had just enough separation to get his shot off after collecting a pass from Merek Mastrov. Penhollow then used the turf to get some real bounce, and it went top shelf, just out of the reach of the goalie. It was an impressive play from the freshman.     [player_tooltip player_id='124923' first='Ryan' last='Cambeiro'] unleashed a worm burner for his first goal and placed it in the bottom left corner. Later, the attackman sniped a shot from the wing that had steam behind it. All in all, it was a solid game from the sophomore, who capitalized on his chances to help the Gaels get the win.     Zach Coneh utilized his IQ to get open on the doorstep multiple times yesterday. He does a great job of sneaking around the crease and finding space. In fact, all three of his goals came right in front of the cage. Coneh also dished out a couple of assists, and his speed and craftiness were both quite evident throughout. Expect him to continue to be a playmaker for Bishop Gorman.     Colton Segler's contributions yesterday were much needed. The skilled offensive weapon was able to get his hands free a few times and rip shots past the Cougars' goalie. He did a great job protecting his stick in traffic and also cranked a high-heat shot from the wing. By the end of the contest, he finished with three goals.     Jason Koa Hernandez was a steady force on offense for the Cougars last night, racking up three goals. His first was a missile from up top that he placed in the corner. He added another after Gorman turned the ball over during a clearing attempt. In the second half, he notched his final goal by scooping up a loose GB and letting it go. Despite the loss, it was a strong performance from the Utah Tech commit.     Scotty Lennox had a pair of goals against Bishop Gorman. He pulled off a spin move into a shot to score his first goal of the game, then added another by getting the ball after a turnover and sending it past the Gael goalie. With his scoring ability, he should be on track to produce more goals in the near future.     The Cougars' new piece made his presence felt, thanks to his frame, strength, and burst. He scored back-to-back goals for them and in entertaining fashion. His first was especially notable, as he powered through a sea of stick checks and finished. Look for him to keep hunting goals as the season goes on.
