Last week, we highlighted the offensive stars set to shape Virginia public school lacrosse in VHSL Class 6. This week, we widen the lens with an All-State watchlist—spotlighting players who are in the conversation to earn postseason honors—and we lay out the early case for five names with a real path to the Class 6 Player of the Year award.

The favorite: [player_tooltip player_id='82319' first='Peyton' last='Larsen'] (D/LSM) | Sr. | Robinson

Penn State commit [player_tooltip player_id='82319' first='Peyton' last='Larsen'] is the early favorite for VHSL Class 6 Player of the Year, and last spring, he did a little bit of everything for Robinson. He's a true shutdown defender who can erase matchups and take the ball away, but his value goes well beyond on-ball stops. Larsen also steps into the “hawk” role in Robinson's ten-man ride, and he delivered a game-sealing run-out goal against Langley in the quarterfinals.
What separates him is how much he impacts the game across the midline. In transition, he handles like a midfielder—pushing tempo, face-dodging to use both hands, and finishing when he gets his hands free. If there's one factor that could quietly cap his numbers, it's Robinson's heavy use of zone defense.

The dark horses

Langley's senior duo of [player_tooltip player_id='174443' first='Jack' last='Milone'] (Mercer) and [player_tooltip player_id='174447' first='Cole' last='Samburg'] (Delaware) both have legitimate Player of the Year cases. With Langley viewed as a state title favorite, the spotlight will be there all spring—and awards often follow the teams playing the latest. As outlined in the offense piece, both put up monster production, cleared 100 points, and earned First Team All-State honors. Samburg may have a slight edge in the race because he influences possession as well as points. He served as Langley's primary faceoff specialist and won 75% (165/220) at the X, and he added USA Lacrosse All-American honors to his résumé.

Roanoke commit [player_tooltip player_id='174596' first='Cooper' last='Woodring'] is the leader of the Independence offense. He stuffed the stat sheet last spring (58 goals, 45 assists) during Independence's state title season and earned First Team All-State. What jumps off the tape is his deception—he sees skip lanes, can look defenders off, and threads passes through tight windows. And when Independence needs a goal, he has the ice in his veins to deliver in big moments. With the Tigers moving up to Class 6, another championship run wouldn't surprise anyone, and Woodring would be a major reason why.

Yorktown junior [player_tooltip player_id='120561' first='Nate' last='Randles'] (Penn State) also belongs in the conversation. He's one of the most dynamic scorers in Virginia public school lacrosse, though his candidacy could take a hit if opposing defenses can load up on him and Yorktown can't consistently punish slides around him.

Anything can happen in a season—injuries, hot streaks, and playoff brackets can swing the narrative fast. But one thing doesn't change: VHSL Class 6 is as competitive as it gets, and 2026 should be no different. West Potomac won last year's state championship dramatically, but they graduated a ton of seniors from that team. The door is wide open for a new contender and a new Player of the Year to emerge. Here's to a great spring season of Virginia public school lacrosse.
