Express North 2028 Black: Built on Culture and Consistency

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Since taking over in the Fall of 2019, coaches Ben Potash, Ricky Schulman, and JR Sherman have guided Express North 2028 Black through an impressive run of development, growth, and national competition. What began as a group of fifth graders is now one of the most seasoned and cohesive 2028 teams in the country. Under their leadership, the team has posted a combined record of 149 wins, 59 losses, and 4 ties, a testament to both their coaching and the players' long-term commitment.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The group first began competing during the 2018-2019 club season when the players were in the fall of their third grade and the summer going into fourth grade. But it was the 2019-2020 season, during the fall of their fourth grade and the summer going into fifth grade, when the current coaching trio took over. That year, the team went 8-6-2, laying the foundation for the culture they would build in the years ahead.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Their breakout came during the 2020-2021 season (5th into 6th grade), with a 21-5-1 record. The momentum carried over as they entered the 2021-2022 season (6th into 7th grade), posting 26 wins to just 7 losses, Then leveling up again in the 2022-2023 season (7th into 8th grade) with a dominant 44-14 campaign, capped off by winning the Lacrosse World Series Championship in the summer of 2023, the first non-Long Island team to win the World Series.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In their 2023-2024 season (8th into 9th grade), they held strong at 25-10, showing maturity, depth, and consistency throughout the years. That stretch, a combined 116-36-1 over four years, firmly established Express North 2028 Black as a top-tier team on the national circuit.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The transition from middle school to high school brought a new set of challenges. Due to rule changes implemented by USA Lacrosse and the NLF, the season spanning from the fall of freshman year to the summer before sophomore year marks the first season where players are officially allowed to reclassify down to the 2028 class. Despite facing older, more physically developed competition, Express North 2028 Black posted a strong 18-13-1 record, demonstrating their ability to adjust to a shifting landscape and continue competing at a high level.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The fall of freshman year and the summer going into sophomore year season, is a crucial season in the recruiting timeline. While college coaches aren't actively scouting this age group yet, team records and rankings from this year play a significant role in shaping future exposure. A strong performance during this year ensures that a team gets on the college coaches' radar early, helping them identify which programs and players to prioritize in the upcoming recruiting season. The better teams will have more college coaches attending their games.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Through it all, the team's identity has remained intact: hard-nosed, disciplined, and team-first lacrosse. The players have grown physically and mentally over the years, and many now serve as leaders both on and off the field for their high school team and their club team. Their ride, clear, team offense, and team defense play are probably the most polished in the 2028 class, reflecting years of shared experience, team chemistry, and detailed coaching.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The trio of Potash, Schulman, and Sherman continues to lead the way. Schulman brings energy and positivity, Potash handles development, leadership, and offensive IQ, while Sherman anchors the back-end organization, team logistics, and team structure.
