Palo Verde Takes Home The LVLA Championship

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Las Vegas, NV</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Matchup: Bishop Gorman Gaels (8-2) vs Palo Verde Panthers (8-1)</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bishop Gorman Head Coach, Nick Campo, was looking to lead the Gaels to their second straight LVLA Championship last night. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On the other side of the field, long time Las Vegas Coach Gary Campo (his father) had led his team to a very successful season, and they only lost to the Gaels in LVLA play.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Panthers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Slater Salinas scored. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Then Benn Carvalho tallied back to back goals for the Panthers and Palo Verde went into the second quarter with a commanding 3-0 lead. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Panthers offense kept rolling in the second quarter and SSDM Nick Lahkdari scored, making it 4-0.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Attackmen, Parker Nielson then got involved and scored 2 straight goals for the Panthers. Then fellow attackmen, Mason Robinson scored a goal on the inside, and it was 7-0 with just a few minutes left in the second quarter. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Palo Verde sideline and fans were buzzing and it seemed like it might be a blow out.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In search of a spark, Bishop Gorman gave LSM Merek Mastrov to start dodging. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He then scored on very first dodging attempt, making it 7-1.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Which ended up being the score at halftime. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Then at the start of the third quarter, LSM Merek Mastrov had the rock on offense again and quickly got downhill. He then made it 7-2.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With Merek Mastrov starting to feel it a bit, Bishop Gorman had him stay on. He was then again at the top of box with the ball. Since he had just connected on 2 goals with his right, Palo Verde sent extra help to cut off that side of the field. But Mastrov then changed directions and and switched the pole into his left hand. From there he uncorked a bouncer and made it 7-3.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The momentum shift was wild, and all of a sudden it was a ball game. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Knowing that the Panthers defense was on their heels a bit, Diesel Riiber utilized his speed on the next possession. Blazing down the field and unleashing a right handed rip from the left side. It stung the bottom corner and it was now 7-4.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Gorman FOGO, Xander Iway also played a pivotal role in their 4-0 run.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Panther middie, Langston Goodwin, then quieted the Bishop Gorman crowd when he made it 8-4, ending the Gaels 4-0 run.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bishop Gorman attackmen, Colton Segler, then got to his left and scored, making it 8-5.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Then [player_tooltip player_id='126834' first='Ben' last='Urso'] notched another goal for the Gaels and it was just a two goal game 8-6.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>That didn't last for long though, as Langston Goodwin ripped a shot from the outside, making it 9-6.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Benn Carvalho, then slipped by defenders on the next possession and scored. Making it 10-6 and the Panthers went into the 4th quarter with a 4 goal lead. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With limited time left, senior [player_tooltip player_id='126834' first='Ben' last='Urso'] wanted the ball. Carvalho secured a hat trick by dodging and maneuvering through the defense. In the first half, he took it upon himself to get the team going and ripped a shot on the run to get Bishop Gorman on the scoreboard. Then at the beginning of the second half, he kept it going and once again scored after an alley dodge. The very next possession he decided to let one go with his left, and it bounced in. It was an impressive personal run from the junior LSM.
