When he is defending in close, Carle can use his impressive frame to play a physical style of defense. He is also a master at using a well-timed stick check to dislodge the ball. Whether he's playing LSM or close defense, Carle is an on-field leader who is in constant communication with his teammates. With his length, speed, and high IQ, Donovan thrives in the open field. When he gets downhill, Donovan can snipe corners or draw a defender and then pass the ball to an open teammate. In settled action, he is a creative distributor and a threat to pull the trigger from 15-18 yards out. The versatile Donovan has displayed the ability to play respectable defense as well. Gillin also excels at executing well-timed double teams from the weak side. His ability to be an effective pole in man-to-man as well as zone defensive schemes is noteworthy too. When he drops back on defense, Valerio can get physical or use a heavy stick check to create turnovers. During his freshman year, Valerio received significant minutes in big games like the District 1-3A championship contest as well as the 3A state title game and ultimately finished the season with 15 goals and 30 assists. So, for a sophomore, he is extremely seasoned. Valerio's lacrosse resumé includes being selected as a standout at last summer's Nike Boys Philly Showcase and an All-Star at the One Percent Showcase.
