Gillin is an athletic and versatile defensive prospect with ridiculously quick feet. Those assets combined with his tremendous instincts enable Gillin to stay between his man and the net until he tires and commits a turnover. They also make Gillin a dominating ground ball machine. Once he has secured the ball, Gillin rapidly gets out in transition where he is a threat to unleash a shot from distance or precisely deliver the ball to an open teammate. Gillin also excels at executing well-timed double teams from the weak side. His ability to be an effective pole in man-to-man as well as zone defensive schemes is noteworthy too. After the 2023 season, Gillin was a 1st Team All-Ches-Mont selection and finished with 25 caused turnovers and 43 groundballs.
