Expert Analysis
Dan Arestia | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Lawrenceville held Brunswick to five goals, and it wasn’t because Brunswick couldn’t create good looks at goal. Piacentini just seemed to get to everything. He made three quick saves at the start of the game. The shots all came high, and Brunswick is smart and well-coached enough to start varying shot locations. So they did, and tried Piacentini low, at hip level, all over. And he saved all of those too. He also had two caused turnovers in the ride, picking off long clearing passes, and he won the run out on a desperation full-field shot to get possession back to Lawrenceville. Post-game, Lawrenceville coach Jon Posner called Piacentini the best goalie in the 2024 class. After the performance, it was hard to disagree.

Lawrenceville’s lengthy list of players to watch keeps growing with the 4-star Cornell recruit in between the pipes for his final year with the Big Red. There is no doubt that a good amount of the Big Red’s success can be attributed to none other than their goaltender, a consensus Top 50 recruit in the class and a four-year starter. What he has been able to do to opposing offenses through his high school career has been nothing short of spectacular, and Cornell should be excited to add another New Jersey native to the program. Piacentini exudes a ton of confidence in the way he plays, standing tall in the net with quick hands and great reaction time on shots in close. He has the athleticism to make some of the more acrobatic saves that you’ll ever see and possesses a short memory, a great quality to have as a goalie. Piacentini shakes off any goal scored on him, keeping his head up and staying focused. He also possesses good footwork in the crease and great vision on long-distance shots, making the hard step-down shots look easy to save. On clears, he makes the right passes thanks to excellent stick skills and helps lead Lawrenceville’s potent transition game. It’ll be fun to see how Piacentini puts a stamp on his high school career this spring.
