I’m not one to make evaluations of defenders solely off of highlight tapes, but Fairhurst’s fall and winter tape gives a really good feel of how well he moves, how much he does well, and even his compete level. While he still has yet to fill out, he has excellent footwork and a strong handle, pairing those qualities with above-average athleticism. Highly capable both above and below the goal line, Fairhurst has the ability to show tenacity without overdoing it and getting himself in trouble, and he’s shown a knack for changing his playing style based on the type of player he’s covering and the scenarios he finds himself in. As we’ve learned over the years, betting on Prime Time-developed defensemen has proven to be a fruitful exercise, so there’s more than a few reasons to buy stock in Whitehurst.
