Kloppel caught my eye both during Friday night’s showcase and during Saturday’s games for a Coronado team that made a splash. First off, he passes the eye test and has the kind of length that coaches look for. From there, he’s smooth off the ground, has above-average athleticism, and standout stick skills. He was definitely opportunistic when he had the ball and had a beautiful individual effort for a goal on one particular occasion, though I’m sure he scored when I wasn’t watching, too. Kloppel showed great hunch and a level of grit when the ball was on the ground, then did a nice job making the appropriate decision once he had it. He was strong when covering the ball on those low corners, in addition to above the cage. Named to Prep Lacrosse’s Class of 2020 Watch List, he’s a defender worth keeping an eye on.
