Owens is a multi-sport athlete (also plays football) with imposing size, excellent speed, and smooth stick skills. That list of assets enables Owens to effectively work as a two-way midfielder. On defense, Owens’ football background leads to a physical brand of SSDM in which Owens causes turnovers by taking the body and via devastating crow bars. This agile and athletic midfielder can harass ball carrier in the open field too. Owens is also capable of locking off an opponent’s No. 1 option for long stretches. At the offensive end, Owens excels in transition as a goal scorer and distributor. In settled action, Owens can initiate from the wing, sweep across the opposing defense, and then crank a shot on the run. Additionally, Owens has flashed the ability to carry the ball behind the net and initiate from X. Because of the power he generates and his quick release, Owens is a legitimate step-down shooting threat. Last spring Owens recorded 18 goals which is an impressive total for a prospect who spends a great deal of his minutes playing SSDM.
