A two-time All-American and Ohio’s Attackman of the Year in 2024, Hocker is undoubtedly the most exciting player to watch in the state. In 2024, he tallied an impressive 131 points, scoring 80 goals. He elevates the performance of those around him, which is evident in his style of play. He understands the threat he poses on the field, and he approaches dodging with that awareness. He is accustomed to facing double teams and early slides, which has only enhanced his skills. Hocker is a certified game-wrecker and is one of the best players to ever play in Ohio.

I’ve always been so impressed by Hocker in this type of environment – he’s all business in every sense and makes the most of every rep. So much can be said about all that he brings to the table as an offensive weapon, but it’s his consistency and ability to feast on defenses in a variety of ways that stand out. He can beat you off the end line, attack from the high wing, bury shots in catch-and-shoot scenarios, take advantage of bad approaches, and do it all while keeping mistakes to an absolute minimum. With the presence of a shot clock at BIC, Hocker scored with mere seconds left more than once and did so with poise. He’s got a powerful upper and lower body, so even when defenders tried to get physical, Hocker shot through and around contact. I had him down for five goals and two assists in two games on Saturday, and although I wasn’t there on Sunday, the score sheet showed that he put in three consecutive goals at the end to lift his team to a championship.

When Hocker was open within 15 yards, it was almost always a goal. He has so many ways to make a defense pay. His shots fit in tight windows, in spaces where goalies struggle. He identifies the defenders’ positioning before making his move and knows exactly who is sliding and from where. He notices when defenders shift their weight and uses it to his advantage, demonstrated on a few occasions. Hocker ended the game with six goals and two assists.

Hocker was unstoppable in the second half. He was electric with the ball, shooting jump shots, and going behind the back. He was very hard to defend and dealt with double teams and quick slides well, quick to move the ball. He was very efficient on ground balls and showed great stick protection after coming up with them.

Hocker’s exceptional performance on the field is truly captivating to watch on film. The regional Player of the Year totaled six goals and five assists against Liberty and Jerome in the final week of the regular season. He also secured the game-winning goal in overtime against Jerome.

Out of the seven 5-star recruits in attendance, a strong argument could be made that Hocker raised his stock the most during his time at the PLL High School Combine. I developed an immense appreciation for the way that the Cincinnati native went about his business like a professional and showed off his athleticism (look no further than his 4.65 forty-yard dash), box lacrosse skill set, and work ethic. For the sake of full transparency, I never felt like Hocker got a fair shake with his evaluation on the summer circuit, given that he played hurt throughout and was never close to 100 percent, thus drawing some skepticism from college coaches who may not have realized the full scope of his health. That being said, I loved what I saw, and there’s no doubt that the format of the event lent itself well to what Hocker brings to the table. Having gained a ton of experience playing box with Resolute, he’s so incredibly dangerous in tight spaces and thrived in the Genny drill and Sixes. With a competitive edge that was always on display, he was meticulous in the way he dodged during positional training and attacked everything head-on.

Hocker, a five-star bound for Ohio State, had a strong day with a hat-trick of goals, and displayed fantastic field sense and awareness. His first two goals resulted from correctly identifying and capitalizing off defensive breakdowns, immediately jumping to open space for a finish. The first came right on the crease for an easy dunk, while the second involved losing his defender off a seal for an uncontested shot from the wing. The third came in a lovely twister finish in a fast break situation.
