Jett Stake
About Jett
Expert Analysis
Niko Amato | Prep Lacrosse Scout
A composed presence in the cage, Jett Stake operates with a level of poise, timing, and unique confidence. Lawrenceville’s tradition of elite goalies continues with him—steady and efficient under legitimate pressure.
Stake’s fundamentals jump off the screen. He holds his line with disciplined footwork, maximizing reaction time while keeping his chest square through shots. His body control shows up in consecutive stops in tight—his back-to-back denials against St. Anthony’s shooters preview exactly how his ACC style will translate in Chapel Hill. He’s comfortable challenging with a higher arc, trusts his hands, and moves pipe-to-pipe with controlled urgency. Stake also has a nose for the ball through X and demonstrates a reliable understanding of rebound angles and reset situations.
Despite his calm exterior, Stake brings spark. He’s level-headed between whistles but injects emotional momentum into his defense with timely energy—celebrations, big-moment presence, and a belief that radiates into the teams he backstops.
Lawrenceville (NJ) finished 17–3, dropping only to eventual MIAA champion Calvert Hall (MD) 6–7 in OT, Brunswick (CT) 7–8, and perennial powerhouse St. Anthony’s (NY)—the 2025 NSCHSAA Class AAA Champions—7–13. Jett was consistently strong in each matchup. His 14-save performance against Salisbury (CT) in an 8–6 win was an early national statement: battle-tested, prepared, and capable of dictating outcomes against top-tier rosters.
Stake verbally committed to North Carolina less than 48 hours after Sept. 1 contact opened—a reflection of how highly UNC valued him and how clearly he fits their identity. Lawrenceville and Team 91 have shaped him into one of the premier goalies in the 2027 class: technically sound, big-game ready, and trending upward.
UNC is getting a cornerstone piece in goal—calm enough to stabilize a defense and competitive enough to elevate one. A goalie built for the moments that matter most!

Stake is a huge energy boost for the Big Red, with his incredible saves and fearless mentality. After a diving stop or rebound, he never takes himself out of a play and is right back to his feet, looking to turn away another opponent’s shot with quick hands between the pipes. He finished with six saves vs. Haverford and nine saves vs Loomis Chaffee, where he played a half in each game and made many acrobatic saves look easy. The North Carolina commit does a great job of staying loud and communicating picks to his defenders, and when he makes a save, he is quick to get the ball up and out for a fast break chance. It’s also really fun to see how energized the sideline gets after a big save and an emphatic fist pump from their goalie to spark some life.

Through the three quarters that Stake played, he did not stop communicating on the defensive end. His energy was infectious, as he was loud and commanding his defenders which is exactly what you want to see and hear out of your goalie. While he faced a ton of shots from great shooters, he also ended up with 11 saves in his time on the field, with back-to-back stops on one possession in the third quarter which ended with him making a diving stop to pump up his squad. The Tar Heel commit made every effort to keep his team in the game and not let it get out of hand with confidence in net and a great reaction time and an ability to drop on low shots, with quick outlets and crisp passes to start a transition chance.

The sophomore goalie is quickly establishing himself as one of the top keepers in his class. His ball-stopping ability is elite, and his calm, poised demeanor during the team’s clears is impressive for a player his age. Starting as a goalie for a powerhouse team like Lawrenceville, which faces some of the best teams in the country every game, is no easy feat. However, the fact that Stake is doing it as a sophomore speaks volumes about his maturity and skill. He was outstanding under pressure today, proving he’s more than capable of performing in high-stakes situations. Jett Stake is a player to watch in the years to come.

There’s nothing understated about Stake, a fiery and energetic ball-stopper from Massapequa. Whether he’s barking out instructions and words of encouragement to his teammates or chirping at a shooter he just stymied, Stake can impact a game with his voice and lift his team with his big-save ability at a high level. He has explosive hand speed that allows him to attack and corral shots from any range, and he moves laterally exceptionally well to cover all four corners of the cage and stop shots from any release point. Lights out in tight, he was also quick to trigger transition with his long and precise outlets, with his work on the clear routinely leading to fast break goals on the other end of the field.

Lawrenceville has the good fortune of returning one of the nation’s best netminders in Cornell-bound Timmy Piacentini, a four-year starter. However, Stake is up next. A fiery Team 91 LI product from Massapequa (N.Y.), Stake may not have prototypical height, but he compensates with a command that belies his age, paired with exceptional hand speed. Evaluating Stake this fall, it quickly became apparent that he’s the type of keeper who allows his defense to play with a ton of confidence, which is that much more impressive considering he’s new to the party. Energetic and vocal, Stake will likely see plenty of quality reps as the second-string before eventually taking over starting duties following the graduation of Piacentini.
