I love the way DeGennaro plays the game. There’s no doubt that he’s undersized, but he plays with a ton of heart and is constantly willing to make the little plays to help his team win. To that point, he lists his ’29 clears’ along with his stats on his highlight reel, an inclusion that I’d never seen before but think is awesome. As a sophomore, DeGennaro put up 33 goals, 16 assists, and 51 groundballs, earning All-County honors in the process. On the football field, it looks like he’s already returned a few kickoffs and punts for touchdowns, to no one’s surprise given his speed and determined mindset with the ball in his hands. There’s just a fearlessness about him that’s fun to watch, and the two-way threat dodges and plays extremely hard – DeGennaro is the kind of player any coach would want on their team. I’m including him with the offensive weapons, but he’ll embrace any role he’s asked to fill in college.

The Islip product was one of the top offensive players at this event. He is a versatile player that could be impactful from the attack or the midfield. He had an invert opportunity in this game, showing his great footwork, which allowed him to create easy separation. DeGennaro had his head up ready to feed and nearly had a nice assist. He had a goal late in this game, ripping a sidearm shot that banged off the pipe and in. DeGennaro will be a force for Islip in these next two years.
