Against St. Paul’s, Birrane showcased his athleticism with speed, quick changes of pace, and lethal goal-scoring ability. He finished the game with a hat trick, with each goal demonstrating his versatility. On his first goal, he dodged a short stick down the alley, stopped in shooting range, and fired a precise shot. His third goal came when he picked up an errant pass near the goal line. With quickness and agility, he darted to the crease and nailed the upper right corner of the goal. Birrane’s athleticism, sharpened by his basketball background, gives him the explosiveness to make quick moves and finish in tight spaces, making him a constant threat on the field.

As a sophomore, Birrane cracked the Gaels’ first line and finished the season with an impressive stat line of 19 goals and 22 assists. The slick and hard-nosed playmaker dodges with guts and purpose, unafraid of contact and showing a willingness to throw his body around. He’s a highly impressive shooter with his feet moving and forces defenses to pay him mind far from the goal due to his range, and his vision makes him that much more of a threat. The time Birrane spent playing basketball earlier in his career is evident in his passing upon drawing the slide and when he makes hesi moves during his dodges. While he begins plenty of dodges with the stick in his off-hand before switching back to his right, he could probably stand to improve his left hand a bit. When he’s called on to play defense, Birrane holds his own as well.
