Having already watched Behrens three times this spring— in addition to seeing Princeton’s top athletes deployed in its SSDM unit—it’s easy to envision him becoming a key part of the Tigers’ rotation in a few years. A high-level athlete and relentless competitor who is coming off a breakthrough sophomore year, it’s beyond evident that Behrens has leveled up. In addition to being a lockdown defender in his role as a shortstick, his offensive prowess and athleticism make it necessary for opponents to account for him whenever he’s on that side of the field. Over the past two weeks, he didn’t seem to get beaten, preventing dodging midfielders from getting their hands free and thriving in coverage when behind the goal. Behrens clears it at an exceptional level and plays under control with the ball in his stick, never forcing anything. He’s hugely critical to the Little Hoyas’ success this year, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him step into an even bigger role as the spring progresses.
