The Loyola Greyhounds landed an absolute beast in this pole with size, range, and elite stick skills. Kuriger is a versatile lefty who displayed the speed and patience to shadow ball carriers on the perimeter and then at the right moment deliver a well-timed poke check that created a turnover. Kuriger was then quick to secure the loose balls and race into the offensive end where he was a threat to rip a shot or distribute. In close, Kuriger proved he will not hesitate to use body checks to separate the ball from an offensive player. He also used heavy stick checks to create turnovers. Kuriger’s ability to tie up offensive players for extended periods with a combination of physicality and pressuring their hands / stick was remarkable. Kuriger’s high IQ and excellent anticipation skills led to his stick frequently clogging up passing / shooting lanes and generating deflections. When Kuriger was off-the-ball, his slides and double teams were on-time and effective.

What immediately jumps out about Kuriger is that he has mastered the art of the well-timed poke check. As a result, he produces takeaways when you least expect it. Once the ball hits the ground, Kuriger is quick to scoop up the GB and lead the clear. This lefty can play a patient style of defense, too. In that scenario, Kuriger will use his physicality and a series of heavy stick checks to wear down the ball carrier until he commits a turnover. Kuriger owns a high IQ as well as solid instincts which means his slides are on time, and he frequently places his stick in the passing and shooting lanes for deflections. As a bonus to his high-level skills, Kuriger owns a decorated resume which includes being a member of the 2023 USA Select U16 team as well as a New Balance All-American (Team Pennsylvania) and All-Star at the One Percent Showcase.
