Expert Analysis
Eric Bretz | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Troczynski was a Swiss army knife for the Green Wave with his ability to dominate the face-off X and then stay on offense with the first-line middies and control the tempo. Nowadays, face-off specialists don’t stay on offense for an extended period of time, but the Cornell commit has vastly improved his stick skills and dodging ability to make sure he is an even bigger threat this spring. He tallied four wins at the X and a goal vs. La Salle, and then six wins and a pair of goals vs Taft. He also works hard and shows effort on loose balls or when caught on defense. He displayed good strength and speed on his face-off wins to evade pressure and set up the offense, and on his dodges, he runs hard to draw a slide and get the defense moving.

Troczynski controlled the face-off X along with Philip Minardo Philip Minardo NJ , combining for 20 total wins, and didn’t allow St. Anthony’s to rattle them by throwing a few long-stick defenders at them at times. The Cornell commit made it look easy most of the day, winning the clamps and dictating how he wanted to play it. While he didn’t push in transition like Minardo did, which resulted in an assist, Troczynski is a smart player who makes the right reads and doesn’t force the ball into too many turnover situations.

The Delbarton product saw his first varsity action last spring and played well with the chances given to him. He totaled 109 faceoff wins at a 63% win rate and 5 goals. He likes the ‘pinch and pop’ method and has good fundamentals at the X, along with the speed to create opportunities in transition. He has an aggressive mentality and is always looking to find a goal off a face-off win. When nothing is available, he can handle the ball and stay on offense if he likes his matchup. His stick skills are superb and he can pass and shoot fluently with either hand. With the departure of Ryan Trafford (Navy), Troczynski should take the reins this spring and be the number one option for the Green Wave.
