Callaway is an athletic and polished defensive prospect with noteworthy size. His speed, refined footwork and active stick enabled him to be a disruptive defensive force. In 6v6 action, Callaway applied relentless pressure to ball carriers on the perimeter and then caused turnovers via slap checks, pokes, lifts, and overheads. Callaway possesses a high IQ and a great timing, so his slides, double teams and recoveries were always on time. He did a tremendous job of navigating around / through screen action too. During his freshman campaign, Callaway also demonstrated the ability to explode out of the box, track down ball carriers, and eliminate fast-break opportunities before they develop. On transition opportunities, Callaway proved that he possesses the quickness and stick skills necessary to carry the ball deep into the offensive zone.
