The Indians would avenge their 7-2 defeat from the Woodstick Classic. Manhasset would pull off the 6-5 victory in the Class B semifinals thanks to a lockdown defensive performance. Here were the top performers that sent Manhasset to the county championship game.
Before we get into all the great defensive players for the Indians, we have to start with the brilliance of Daniel Kolin. The Indians needed to find ways to score, and Kolin delivered a hat trick in this playoff matchup. Kolin’s lacrosse IQ and athleticism would shine in his first goal of the game to help the Indians cut the early deficit to one. Kolin recognized that most of the Trojan defense flowed over to a Manhasset player on the near side of the field, and when Kolin caught the ball at X, he noticed all the open space on the backside and sprinted past his defender for a finish on the run. He strung together a bunch of dodges in this game that helped flow the offense and create opportunities. But his second goal would come in a zone offense set. Garden City sprinkled in a zone, and Manhasset went to a 1-4-1 set. After banging the ball to the wing, Kolin snuck around from X and put away a quick finish on the crease to give the Indians the 5-3 lead. His final goal was a play that your star needs to make. After eating three minutes of clock on offense, Kolin dodged hard down the alley and cashed in off a jump shot with a defender all over him.

Another star for the Indians who stepped up again on the big stage, he held Garden City’s top attackman, Andrew Ottomanelli Andrew Ottomanelli 6’3″ | 175 lbs | A | Left Hand Garden City | 2024 NY , in check. He limited him to just one goal, which came on an extra man opportunity. Mulholland’s physicality and takeaway abilities are very impressive. In the third quarter, he had a great show toward X but was able to sprint back to Ottomanelli. He had a great breakdown and was ready for him to spin back to his left, where he was able to land a check to knock the ball out of his stick. His off-ball defense was also great. On the very next possession, Mulholland disrupted passing lanes and deflected a skip pass that would’ve given Garden City a golden opportunity on offense. Mulholland then had an amazing stretch to end the game. He would make multiple disruptive plays in the fourth quarter including a successfully timed trail check to keep Garden City off the scoreboard. For a third straight season, Mulholland has elevated his game when it matters most.

Zacharia will have a busy day on September 1st, and he showed why he’s one of the top 2026 prospects on Long Island. When he had to guard Carson Kraus Carson Kraus 5’10” | M Garden City | 2024 NY , Zacharia did a great job against an extremely productive senior. Zacharia fought through picks and refused to let Kraus have his hands free, where his lethal shot would be on display. At the end of the first half, he had great positioning and got his stick into Kraus’ hands to force a high pass to end the half. Zacharia proved to be a disciplined defender and has made some amazing strides during his sophomore year, so keep an eye out for Zacharia this summer.

In past years, I’ve mainly seen Collins as a longstick midfielder, however, he’s been a huge addition at shortstick defensive midfield. Garden City was attacking the shorties, and Collins responded extremely well. The Lehigh-bound senior made a countless amount of little plays to help this Manhasset defense succeed. On the first possession of the second quarter, they dodged him multiple times and he played lockdown defense. He had excellent footwork and forced a low-angle shot off a question mark dodge that was saved. Garden City tested him throughout this game and he continued to step up. There were plenty of times when no help defense was needed and Collins straight-up won his matchups.

Up by one with just about 10 seconds left, Im was facing a step down from inside 10 yards for the tie, but Im was all over the high bouncer. He made a clutch save to keep Manhasset ahead 6-5 and that stop would seal the victory for the Indians. He had a couple of clutch saves throughout this game for Manhasset. After letting up three early goals, Im only allowed two goals the rest of the way in the final three quarters. He made good passes in the clear game when he was needed late. And just like a couple of other players in this senior class, Im is poised on the big stage and tends to rise to the occasion.
