5 West Coast Defensemen Who Cause Turnovers

The West Coast has no shortage of defensive talent right now.   These players combine instincts, athleticism, and timing to create turnovers and disrupt opposing offenses.    Axton Retherford (pictured) is an absolute pest on defense due to his length, relentlessness, and instincts. He stays all over his opponents hands and gives them very little room to operate. He also has the ability to land big checks or hits, which can force the rock out of his opponent's stick. And he knows to push the pace from there. Overall, there's a lot to like and he still has plenty of time to keep developing.     I watched Evan Sheedy in action at the Adrenaline Blackjack Classic and was impressed with his performance. He uses his anticipation skills to create chaos with effective checks, and he has the awareness and speed to move the ball upfield after gaining possession. Overall, he displays many of the attributes you look for, and he may be a 2027 prospect that coaches want to check out.     Logan Dufrene brings good size, a high IQ, and a competitive edge to the table. He stays very close to his man and doesn't let them get comfortable. Often shoving them around or throwing small jabs here and there. In addition to physical play, he wins ground balls and delivers accurate outlet passes.     DJ Rogers makes life difficult for opponents with his grit, stick checks, and tenacity. Whether battling for loose ground balls or bumping a dodging attacker, he consistently disrupts the offense. On top of that, his burst allows him to contribute during clears and in transition play.     Bennett Sackman is a disciplined defender who knows exactly when to go for a turnover. He stays patient and maintains solid positioning, yet can generate takeaways with well-timed checks. Beyond his defensive skills, he can score if left open. And he notably had a smooth behind the back shot go in at the Adrenaline Blackjack Classic.
