There is a certain type of offensive player who looks so light on his feet that he seems to float. Smith is one of those attackmen. He may not dazzle with pure athleticism, but his confidence and skill radiate in his game. Ty Xanders and I watched him at IMLCA in the winter, where he impressed us with his goal-scoring ability. That production has continued throughout the summer. The volume of points he puts up forces you to pay attention.

As a lefty, Smith is excellent off the ball, but he does much of his damage from that wing, either as a stepdown shooter or by sweeping to the middle for an on-the-run finish. He is not a range shooter, but he loves using an underhand or sidearm release. Both carry a subtle deception, especially when paired with his use of head and eye fakes, and he can place the ball wherever he wants. In tight, he is lights out. He catches everything, and his deception consistently creates access to the open parts of the net. One area of his game that stood out more this summer than it did in the fall was his riding ability. He consistently puts himself in the right spots to double ball carriers, force turnovers, and jump-start transition, where he makes smart decisions.

Among the ’28s that I evaluated for the first time at IMLCA, Smith was the most impressive, in addition to being the most productive. He dazzled with the ball in the stick, thriving both as a goal-scorer and a passer, drawing the eyes of the defense and then tossing a pinpoint pass to the back pipe in a Sunday win over Prime Time. Unofficially, I had the Orlando native down for six goals and two assists in two games against top competition, including a five-piece against a talented Project Midwest group. In particular, I was blown away by his poise, flair for the dramatic, and knack for making the guys around him better. He darted through traffic and finished under duress, finished at 5 and 5, and got it done with both hands with regularity. He’s excellent without the ball, too, executing some downright beautiful cuts then finishing in close. Simply put, when Sweetlax needed a play, Smith was the one making things happen and making defenses look silly in the process.

Smith is a true two-handed quarterback attackman who thrives as the offensive catalyst from behind the cage. A natural playmaker at X, he operates with poise and precision, dissecting defenses with his elite vision and ability to feed in tight windows. His ambidexterity makes him unpredictable, equally comfortable initiating and finishing with either hand. Beyond his passing, Smith showcases elite hands around the crease, finishing with touch and creativity in traffic. He’s the type of attackman who elevates everyone around him, blending IQ, composure, and execution to keep the offense in constant rhythm.
