Expert Analysis
Carey Smith | Prep Lacrosse Scout
Burman is a Canadian prospect with significant box lacrosse experience. Thus, for an LSM / close defender, Burman possesses extremely polished stick skills and a creative offensive mind. Those assets, combined with his noteworthy speed, enable Burman to be a significant contributor on the fast break. On the defensive end, Burman plays an aggressive style of pole. He will press out on ball carriers all the way to midfield and constantly harass their hands. Burman also has a physical edge to his game and will not hesitate to take the body to create a turnover. His agility, high IQ, and communication skills enable Burman to work over/through screens smoothly. Burman is a ground ball machine, too. Back in mid-March, Burman committed to Rutgers.

A 2026 who was 2027 reclass eligible (and thus, played with that age group this summer), Burman announced his commitment to Rutgers earlier this month, and the Scarlet Knights are getting an incredibly active pole. His presence was felt throughout the game, both as Hill jumped out to a commanding first-half lead and as the Pride held off the Cardinals’ second-half comeback attempt. His stick work is a hallmark of his game, and he uses it better than most defenders his age. He caused a turnover on a great lift in the first quarter to force a pass off-target, then punched the sky on a nasty over-the-head check at midfield late in the third quarter against Calvert Hall’s best midfielder. Burman will need to learn that there’s a time and a place for those OTH checks, but that’s easily fixable, and he makes so many plays that it’s something that coaches can live with right now.

Much has been made of the strength of this ’27 Canadian class, and Burman is without question among the top two or three still available. After impressing me while watching Hill this spring, he was lights out at Naptown, routinely ending possessions with hard slaps and lifts. He plays with a relentless motor and never gives up on plays, often catching opponents slipping with disruptive trail checks. With his approach to groundballs and top-tier stickwork, Burman is a weapon off the wings and in any 50-50 situation. If he commits to a program that lets him play his game while maximizing his talents, he has the ability to make an immediate impact.
