An imposing offensive weapon who checks in around 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, Maher is at his best when operating above the cage. He possesses great footwork for his size and above-average two-handedness, hammering the ball from range and tossing pinpoint skip passes to wide open teammates while taking advantage of the attention that he draws. Simply put, when Maher wants to score, he usually does. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him start from Day 1 once he joins the Quakers’ roster, which is in need of an offensive game-changer.

Maher is just flat-out different in every sense. His size was the most intriguing attribute as a prospect prior to 9/1, but it’s his dynamic skill set and ability to affect the game in a multitude of ways that stands out most. Possessing snappy wrists and excellent eyes, he’s incredibly deceptive
— Maher has a knack for making a defense believe he’s going to shoot right up until the last second when he flings a pass to a teammate right at their ear. He’s undoubtedly a quarterback, but very much an outlier in that he operates mostly above the cage and moves all over the offensive zone. He’ll beat his man from X with ease, whether by putting his shoulder down or exploding past them, and has a full bag of tricks at the island. I can’t help but wonder how Maher will be used at Penn, as a lot of people viewed him as a midfielder when recruiting him. However, the Quakers sorely need an alpha at attack, and Maher is exactly that.

Bullis has had to rely heavily on the No. 3 junior over the past couple of weeks. He was a little quiet (for his standards, at least) in the Bulldogs’ loss to Landon but still notched two goals: one an off-hand lefty outside shot and the latter a trademark question mark dodge. Ironically, his better performance came against Gonzaga where he was covered by a combination of Yale commit

. He scored four goals, with three of those four coming from the top of the key where he had more room to operate and could utilize more of his speed. He put the Bulldogs on his back, scoring four consecutive points for Bullis in a near comeback attempt.

Coming out of the weekend, Harrison, the newly minted Hall of Famer, summed Maher up best by saying, ‘

is ALL business. That cat didn’t smile all weekend and was there to compete in EVERYTHING.’ Of course, when it comes to a player of Maher’s caliber (the Penn commit is ranked No. 3 in the class), you expect to see a certain level of drive and competitiveness, but even as someone who has seen him play dozens of times, I was struck by his attention to detail on every rep and his overall desire to compete. He’s just a different animal since it’s uncommon to see a 6’4, 190-pounder move with so much fluidity across the board — he topped all attackmen by running the 5-10-5 shuttle in 4.45 seconds. Shooting the ball with tremendous force, his hands are phenomenal as well. On numerous occasions when he was up top, Maher flung gorgeous skip passes that caused those of us spectating to double over in awe.
