, setting the tone for the Cadets throughout the day.
Cantor’s performance was an example of what college programs look for in a gritty face-off specialist. At the next level, it’s rare to dominate every matchup — success often comes down to technique, stick skills, and efficiency in 50/50 situations. Cantor showed all of that Friday: he battled through tie-ups, handled the ball cleanly, and came away with critical ground balls when possessions hung in the balance. What stood out most was his ability to exit effectively after prolonged tie-ups, especially when he only had around 51% control of the ball. That poise and persistence reflect real growth since his summer evaluation. His steady development and confidence at the X make him a cornerstone piece for St. John’s this spring — and with the schedule the Cadets face, he’ll have plenty of chances to prove how good he is.

Coby Cantor posted a 61.25% winning rate (166/271) with 81 ground balls, & 3 points on the season for St. John’s Cadets in Washington, D.C. Coby started Varsity as a sophomore in 2025 & showed the same consistency at the True 12 showcase, earning a 32/45 on the coaches’ evaluation metric. He is a technician at the stripe, relying on quick hands, clean exits, & smart reads rather than brute force. What separated him in Conshohocken was his ability to stay calm under pressure & tilt the field with possession play. Cantor has room to grow with sharp counters, quality decision making, & overall game IQ. He looks like a player who will keep climbing the national radar with his combination of discipline, poise, & precision.

Cantor has had an impressive summer with the Annapolis Hawks. He consistently demonstrates quick hands and clean exits at the stripe. He often reaches the clamp first and knows when to scoop the ball himself or goose it to his wings to start a transition. His knack for creating possessions during key moments is notable. When ground balls become scrappy, he isn’t afraid to get physical. As he continues to improve his counter moves and expand his skills, Cantor is shaping up to be a promising FOGO with significant long-term potential.
