Pennsylvania Prospects Who Impressed at Naptown

Below is review of five prospects from Pennsylvania who impressed with their outstanding play at last week's Naptown National Challenge.    Aquino is a gifted midfielder with length, speed, and slick moves. Those assets combined with his attacking style allowed Aquino to thrive in transition. His ability to draw a slide on the break and then dish to the open man was impressive. Aquino pinged corners on the full sprint too. In settled action Aquino's physicality enabled him bully defenders until he got to his spots. He also used his quick first step and shifty fakes to create open shots. Aquino displayed an accurate and powerful step-down shot as well.     This young buck increased his recruiting stock in Annapolis as Dumais proved to be a versatile prospect who can operate at midfield or attack against elite competition. As a midfielder his speed and elusive moves enabled Dumais to clear the ball with ease and trigger fast break opportunities. On a couple of those breaks, Dumais got inside 12 to 15 yards and then buried shots on the move. When he was playing attack, Dumais excelled at operating from the wing and at X. From both those spots, Dumais used quick change of direction cuts to slip past his defender into open space for a high percentage shot. If the defensive slide came in time to cut off Dumais, his field vision and high IQ kicked in and he dropped a dime to the open teammate.       Halpert is a long, athletic, and rangy pole with fantastic two-way capabilities. At Naptown, he showed a remarkable ability to scoop up a ground ball or cause a turnover and then push the ball in transition. His impressive speed enabled Halpert to get into the offensive end in a flash for a shot or an assist. On defense, Halpert moved his feet extremely well and threw heavy stick checks. Last week Halpert proved he can run with midfielders on the perimeter or play a physical style of defense in-close on attackmen. The combination of Halpert's quickness and high lacrosse IQ produced several well-timed double teams that led to turnovers.     Kabatt is a quick burst athlete who can blow past the initial defender from the wing or from behind the cage to create opportunities for himself and teammates. This shifty attack also showed he could cut on a dime to avoid slides and double teams. When he was in traffic close to the cage, Kabatt did a tremendous job of keeping his stick tight to his body until he was ready to fire a shot. On the perimeter, Kabatt's speed and his quick trigger produced several excellent on the run scoring opportunities. Kabatt's use of deceptive head / shot fakes was impressive as well.     Mountain is an athletic and technically sound pole who played close defense as well as LSM. This high IQ defender displayed polished footwork and poise as he patiently waited for ball carriers to make a mistake and then executed a well-timed poke check to create a turnover. Mountain also dished out impactful body checks that threw offensive players off balance or even jarred the ball loose. When the ball was on the ground, Mountain's quickness and stick skills allowed him to scoop up the rock and charge down field. Mountain was a plus player in the clearing game too. On a few possessions he carried the ball into the offensive end himself. After other defensive stops, Mountain delivered precise clearing passes up the field.
