Prep Lacrosse National High School Rankings: Week 4, April 7
While there were no changes within the top five this week, several marquee Top 10 matchups loom on the horizon and could shake things up dramatically by next Monday. Four of the top five teams picked up at least one ranked win in the past seven days without suffering a loss, leaving little room for movement at the very top.
The week's biggest result came out of Cincinnati, where St. Xavier (Ohio) stunned then-No. 7 Culver (Ind.) in overtime—handing the Eagles just their second loss to another Midwest team in over a decade. Led by five-star attackman and Ohio State commit Khalif Hocker, the Bombers look like a legitimate title contender once again, though Upper Arlington (1-2) remains the favorite with a head-to-head win. With no Top 25 wins to date, Culver slipped to No. 21, one spot behind St. X. The Eagles now enter a pivotal stretch with back-to-back games against Western Reserve and Hill north of the border.
Malvern Prep (Pa.) held firm at No. 8 despite losses to higher-ranked opponents, still boasting one of the strongest résumés in the country. Meanwhile, St. Sebastian's (Mass.) made its debut at No. 10 after passing the eye test and picking up impressive early-season wins.
McDonogh (Md.) returned to the Top 10 and will have a golden opportunity to shake things up when they host No. 1 Calvert Hall (Md.) today at 4:30 p.m. Elsewhere in the MIAA, Spalding (Md.) made a statement with a 10-4 road win over Loyola Blakefield (Md.), sending the Dons down six spots. Mt. St. Joseph (Md.) continued its rise with a gritty 8-4 win over then-No. 21 St. Paul's (Md.), knocking the Crusaders out of the Top 25.
Outside of those shifts, things largely held steady—and now, with every team from the preseason Top 25 officially underway, the picture should continue to come into sharper focus moving forward.
