A calculated disruptor at the X, Justin Scalzo blends fast hands, sharper instincts, and a possession-first mindset that scales against elite competition. He operates like a data-driven problem solver — reading leverage, manipulating pressure, and winning clamps with a level of efficiency that makes the faceoff X feel predictable.

Scalzo’s 2025 campaign reflected a player trending sharply upward: 53/95 (56%), 31 ground balls, 2 goals, and an assist for The Big Green. Yet the numbers only hint at the full picture. He rarely jumps or guesses; instead, he gets his stick over the ball, dictates the point of contact, and uses a broad exit package with a clear preference to push tempo. When he wins clean, he becomes a downhill midfielder — physical, assertive, and strong enough to finish through contact with multiple defenders draped on him.

Justin’s presence bends games. He can draw three or four defenders after a win and still deliver the right read, slipping passes in traffic and forcing early rotations. His ability to create instant offense was on full display against Hotchkiss (CT) to open the fourth quarter: first, a push-forward win into a solo strike in six seconds; seconds later, another faceoff he popped to his wing, sealing space and creating the angle for a quick-strike 4 on 3 goal. Those back-to-back sequences flipped the rhythm and ignited the surge that carried Deerfield to a 12–6 win. The Big Green finished 11–6, and Scalzo was one of the primary engines behind their identity and pace.

What separates Justin is the discipline, detail, and repeatability in everything he does — the habits you can see from the moment the whistle blows. His analytical approach shows up on film in how he sequences counters, manages tempo, and controls possession across all four quarters.

Verbally committed to Georgetown, Scalzo projects as a possession-driver for Hoya Saxa with scalability others covet — someone who wins with technique, anticipation, and transition rather than gimmicks.
