Expert Analysis

Donning his shiny new Calvert Hall helmet the last few months after deciding to transfer from Mt. St. Joe, Scott has been on a tear all summer and closed out the circuit with an excellent campaign at Nilly. Tough and explosive, the lefty is wildly talented with the ball in his stick and can make things happen from a variety of spots within the offensive zone while doing so in different ways. He shoots an excellent ball from mid-range and consistently scores off the catch, even with defenders closing out on his hands. Scott is assertive as a dodger with a knack for getting to his spots, and can fill up a stat sheet quickly. I’ll be curious to keep an eye on his development going forward, as MIAA transfer rules will only allow him to play in non-league games this year, so practice will be that much more pivotal for his growth as a player.

The lefty attack spot has been firmly held down by Scott, and he’s been a standout in that role. What stands out most are his box-style attributes, which have made him a dynamic force on offense. He knows how to finish in tight, using his body to create separation and get to the goal. His shot is especially dangerous, thanks to a deceptive release point that hides the ball from the goalie. His windup masks the shot, making it nearly impossible for the keeper to read. As only a sophomore, Scott’s potential is clear. With his skill set and work ethic, look for him to have a long, successful career at Mount St. Joe and become a key player for years to come.

An exceptionally skilled lefty, Scott burst onto the MIAA scene by posting 30 goals and 13 assists for the Gaels as a freshman starter. At IMLCA, he continued to provide a spark as FCA Maryland’s primary offensive weapon and hero in the clutch, nailing an OT game-winner on extra-man in a win over True on Saturday. Defenses have to account for him at all times given how explosive he is as a dodger and how dangerous he is as an outside shooter, and his team does a terrific job of moving him around and putting him in a position to make an impact. In an 8-2 statement win over the Hawks, Scott scored on a low-to-low worm burner from the lefty wing, off of a fake flip EMO play and a sidearm stepdown that he placed stickside hip. Moving forward, I’d like to see his game grow when it comes to dodging to feed, which will only make Scott that much more dynamic as a prospect.
