For better or worse, Navy's recruiting efforts will always be measured against those of its bitter rival, Army. As we wrote over the weekend, the Black Knights won the early window before the Sept. 9 contact date for all Division I programs. Since then, however, Navy's pickups have been notable, highlighted by a head-turning commitment from five-star goalie [player_tooltip player_id='165876' first='Weston' last='Guerra'], who had been linked to a Big 10 school.

The Midshipmen have built on an early core of commits that included Culver's four Standfast brothers — for more on them, check out US Lacrosse's extensive feature from July — and [player_tooltip player_id='179194' first='Tommy' last='Geron'], Prep Lacrosse's No. 70 junior and a left-handed lockdown cover defender from Long Island.

The Manhasset native was often tasked with guarding opponents' top attackmen on a loaded backline that featured fellow commits to Loyola, Rutgers, Duke, Johns Hopkins, and Michigan. The latter three also landed spots in the Prep Lacrosse Top 100, making it all the more impressive that Geron was often tasked with guarding the opposing team's top righty. It speaks to both his body of work and the confidence 91 Venom's coaching staff has in the reigning state champ. Geron's addition was another significant pickup for Navy and the latest in a long line of accomplished defensive recruits to head to Annapolis.

While Geron was the clear headliner of the pre-9/9 crew, his late July commitment to head coach Joe Amplo's staff was preceded by three others. In many ways, it's not a true Navy class until the Mids pick up an Anne Arundel County product, and they got one on July 23rd with the addition of Broadneck and Annapolis Hawks attackman [player_tooltip player_id='172062' first='Wyatt' last='Hicks']. A gifted interior finisher, Hicks has already broken school records, having accounted for 73 goals as a freshman and another 75 tallies as a sophomore.

A few days later, Navy landed a hulking midfielder with potential in the form of Berkshire School (Mass.) and ADVNC's [player_tooltip player_id='175984' first='Nick' last='Hansen']. A San Francisco native who first went East to powerhouse Lawrenceville (N.J.) before settling in with the Bears. From there, Navy received a commitment from Darien (Conn.) and Express North SSDM [player_tooltip player_id='215871' first='Charlie' last='Peters'], whose brother Jackson was a standout shortstick d-middie and captain for the Midshipmen before graduating in 2024.

It was a rock-solid foundation, and while August was dormant in terms of commitments, Navy's progress in September and October has helped its recruiting efforts make up ground and make a splash in the process. On September 15, Prep Lacrosse's No. 21 junior [player_tooltip player_id='165876' first='Weston' last='Guerra'] (McDonogh, Md.), his twin brother Wyatt, an attack/middie prospect, and standout Weddington (N.C.) defenseman [player_tooltip player_id='172317' first='Michael' last='Resnick'] all announced their commitments to the Mids.

Weston's addition to the class ranks among the more surprising commitments of the last decade, given that he had been linked to Maryland and was coming off a visit to College Park before opting to attend Navy with his brother. Interestingly, the last time the Midshipmen landed a five-star was during the 2023 recruiting cycle, when fellow McDonogh Eagle AJ Marsh picked Navy. Marsh has since developed into an All-American in Annapolis, validating his ranking. Given the timing, Resnick's announcement may have flown under the radar, but his game and résumé speak for themselves. He was ranked No. 20 among South prospects after providing lockdown defense for Team 91 Charlotte and Team 91 South all summer.

About a week later, Navy picked up its fifth 2028 from Culver (Ind.) in fiery Sweetlax attackman [player_tooltip player_id='142235' first='Nate' last='Szweda'], ranked No. 23 in the Midwest, and promising left-handed Marin Catholic (Calif.) midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='198928' first='Logan' last='Mack'], the No. 21 junior out West.

Following a brief pause in action as more prospects navigated their options, Navy's October additions have also been noteworthy. Deerfield (Mass.) two-way midfielder [player_tooltip player_id='184470' first='Teddy' last='Baum'], another Darien (Conn.) native and a recent transfer from the Blue Wave, checked in as the No. 100 player in the Class of 2028 and fits the mold of the multifaceted, athletic, and tough midfielders to come through Navy's program. [player_tooltip player_id='201358' first='Jake' last='Neidig'], a slick attackman from St. Anthony's (N.Y.), was another Long Island product to join the Mids, with the 6-foot-1 finisher ranked No. 71 among Northeast natives in the junior class.

With 14 commitments in the class, the Mids are sitting pretty and have to like what's aboard the ship in terms of the depth of talent, athleticism, grit, and star power.
