Standouts From Liberty National Fall Classic, Part I

On the lacrosse field this past weekend McGregor proved to be a speedy, agile, and physical two-way midfielder. At the offensive end, McGregor got downhill from up top and scored or dropped dimes while on the run. He also displayed the ability to rip step downs from deep and excelled at pushing transition opportunities. Defensively, McGregor used his athleticism and physicality to provide tenacious on-ball defense. McGregor also executed a handful of well-timed double teams that produced turnovers. At this event Moran proved he is comfortable initiating from anywhere is the offensive end. His elusive change of direction moves and stick maneuvers enabled Moran to escape his initial defender and then dash to open space for a shot on the run. Other times he carried the ball all the way to the crease for a dunk. His creative finishes and ability to shoot with either hand kept opposing goalies guessing on those attempts in close. Plus, Moran displayed the ability to play attack. Newkirk also proved he could rapidly slide post to post to make tough saves. When opponents generated opportunities in close, Newkirk remained poised and snuffed out those shot attempts around the crease. His fast hands and active stick produced a high percentage of clean saves. Once the ball was in Newkirk's possession, he delivered precise clearing passes. This dynamic lefty scored on the run as well as via catch and shoots in close and rips from GLE. His ability to score with either hand was noteworthy too. Still, what impressed me the most about Noll was the field vision and spacing awareness he showed on several Instagram worthy assists. Noll proved to be a patient ball carrier who was willing to bounce out or re-dodge until a high percentage opportunity developed for one of his teammates. Once that happened, Noll used his polished stick skills to deliver a precise dime. His upside as a goal scoring attack / midfielder is unlimited. But, the item that really popped about this athletic and gritty freshman was his positional versatility. During Saturday's games, Snyder operated at attack, O-Mid, SSDM and even took several face offs. His willingness to do whatever it takes to help his team win games was impressive. With his non-stop motor, high level stick skills and grit, Snyder made positive contributions in each of those roles.
