A. L. L. Summer Championship: Netminders You Need to See

When it comes down to it and everything is on the line, goalies are the last line of defense and are usually the heroes for their teams. While at the Alliance Summer Championships, I was able to scout a bunch of great 2027 goaltenders, check out the 9 players who showed immense talent and potential as they progress in their high school and club lacrosse careers. Burke does a good job of attacking the ball when he gets a good read on it. He is a smart net-minder with quick reactions to swiftly get low or across the goal for a save. The Bishop Ireton product has good size at 6'1" in net and displays a lot of confidence in his game. He does a good job of controlling rebounds, preventing them from ricocheting off his stick or popping out of his mesh and limiting the amount of second chance goals for his opponent. He finished with 10 saves vs 3D New England and he made the easy stops that he is expected to make, but also came away with a few eye-popping saves that were note-worthy, robbing his opponents numerous times.     The Don Bosco Prep product had a great showing in his game vs BBL Black. He tallied 13 total saves in just one half of play as he was getting completely peppered with shots left and right from a good shooting team. Morales stood on his head a few times with back-to-back saves and really did a good job of trying to will his team to get back into the game and gain momentum. He has quick hands and is athletic to get low on bouncers or with quick lateral movements to block a shot. He can handle the ball well and helps out in the clearing game by making smart plays, but when the chance comes he can drop dimes to open teammates for an unsettled opportunity. He also showcases a lot of effort and hustle at the end line trying to win possession for his team when he can.     Ippoldo was a strong presence in cage for his squad this past weekend. In his game vs BBL Black, he notched 7 saves against a good shooting team, with a few clutch stops in tight. He shows confidence in cage and is a good communicator for his teammates defensively. He tracks the ball well out of the stick and has good instincts between the pipes. The Doylestown, PA native is patient with the ball and uses his long poles to work the clear, but when the chance presents itself, he throws accurate and powerful outlet passes for a transition chance. Ippoldo puts his body on the line for his team, with kick saves and diving attempts, showcasing his athleticism and big-play ability.     Goodwin is a game-changer in cage for his team, with his footwork and quick reaction time, he is a frustrating goalie to play against and figure out. In his game vs 2Way he came up with 7 saves in only one half played, splitting time in cage. He has quick hands and attacks the ball on bouncers to prevent a rebound chance and moves well laterally with good position in net. He faced a great shooting team and while he let a few past him, he also made some terrific stops and didn't allow the game to get out of hand early. Besides coming up with eye-popping saves, the Glen Ridge product communicates well between the pipes and has good awareness, hustling to the end line on wide shots with no back-up and being a key piece in the clearing game.     Whiteley showed a lot of skill and confidence in cage in the three games I saw from BBL Black. He typically played in the first half of games, totaling 8 saves vs NJ Riot, 4 saves vs Brotherly Love, and 3 saves vs 3d New England in the title game, standing tall in net and coming up with some clutch stops against high-level shooting talent. The Gill St. Bernard's product did a great job of setting the tone in the first half, making saves and letting his offense get going and jump out to leads. He displays good awareness and positioning in cage, cutting down shooting angles for opponents with his big frame and once he has possession, he gets it up and out quick to try for an unsettled goal on the other end.     After having already seen McEntee in the spring vs Westfield in the state title game, he proved to be a brick wall for his team again in his game vs Sweetlax where he came up with about 7 stops against a high-powered offense. He is a big body in between the pipes and uses his body well when blocking shots or hugging the pipe to cut off a shooting angle on the wing. The Kingsway product was getting hammered with shot after shot and he kept standing tall and keeping his team in it for a while. He shows quick movements and a good ability to get low quick on a bounce shot, making some of his saves look routine. When he's clearing he has good vision to scan the field and high lacrosse IQ not to throw the ball in dangerous spots.     RJ Logan had a great game vs DC Express as he saw a lot of shots and came up with a lot of big time stops, trying his best to keep his team in the game against talented shooters. He finished with 9 saves in that game, utilizing his high lacrosse IQ and displaying good footwork and stick skills in cage. The Burlington, NJ native sees the ball well from distance and is agile enough to adjust to the shot. When the shooter is on the doorstep he also shows the ability to match his opponent's stick and and when he comes up with the stop he gets his head up immediately looking for an outlet. In the clearing game, he is patience with the ball, not forcing it into turnover situations and throws crisp outlet passed to his teammates.     At 6'2", Ward has a big presence in net and does a great job of communicating to his teammates and making sure everyone is on the same page. He moves well between the pipes and does a good job of cutting off shooting angles with his body and awareness. He is athletic and cuts well side-to-side, while also displaying the ability to attack the ball on a low shot. In his game vs Shore2Shore, the Brampton, ON native made 7 saves in one half of play and set the tone early with what looked to be a few routine saves to get him warmed up. Not only does he make great saves, but he is also a threat with the ball, working hard in the clearing game, showing off his stick skills on smooth outlet passes and doesn't hesitate to come out of cage to make a play.     Fitzgerald commands the defense from the cage and made some brilliant stops in his game vs Next Level where he posted 7 saves. He sees the ball well and stays patient when in tight and staying composed. He has good instincts and moves well between the pipes with his athletic ability to make some fantastic saves. The Winston-Salem, NC native is confident in net, barking out calls to his defenders and staying consistent. Next Level was letting the ball fly and in only one half, Fitzgerald was standing tall and make play after play trying to generate momentum. He throws clean outlet passes to his teammates and exhibits an accurate deep-ball to start transition chances whenever he can.
