D3 Midwest Showcase: Standout Attackmen

High school players from across the Midwest attended and were coached by Division 3 coaches through games and drills. On multiple occasions, he caught his man off-guard and beat them to the goal, maneuvering around them and beating incoming slides. More than once, he saved a ball on its way out of bounds, as well as off-target passes. Combined with his agility, it wasn't easy to keep up with him. He navigated through contact and made plays in the open space that he created. He knows when he has an advantage over his defender and knows the positioning of off-ball players when he's dodging. He has great size, which he uses to play physically, making him very hard to contain. When Churchwell keeps the ball, he's got a wicked step-down shot, and can shoot just as well on the run. On a couple of opportunities, he was able to take his time and place a hard shot past the goalie. He was also very active off-ball, frequently cutting and moving around backside. One memorable play was when he intercepted the ball on a long outlet pass and then quickly followed it up with an assist. He showed soft hands near the crease with a powerful finishing shot. When he was off-ball, he made sure to cut and move. He displayed clever ball-handling and used quick maneuvers to evade and dodge past his opponents. He shot accurately, both low and high, while on the run, demonstrating speed and precision . He has a smooth flow when in possession of the ball, and exhibits a quick shot release off of a pass. That shot displayed both speed and accuracy.
