Just when it looked like the host Bruins were going to pull things out in regulation, the Broncos struck back. Will Hart Will Hart null | G Frederick Douglass | 2026 KY turned a big stop with under a minute left into a long, crisp outlet pass that Red Mizeur would send into the back of the cage with just 13 ticks left. That goal was Mizeur’s second of the day and would be the overtime-forcing score, making it a 9-9 game.
Sophomore Jimmy Hooks got the ball behind the net, dodged up past GLE, beat his man, and avoided the double team before putting it nearside high for the win.
The win moves Frederick Douglass to 12-3 on the year with three contests left, including another trip to the Louisville metro area to play North Oldham on Saturday.
Ballard drops to 12-4 on the season with five contests remaining. That includes a meeting with currently undefeated Woodford County and a rematch with Bowling Green, which the Bruins lost in overtime in their early-season tournament.
Here is a look at five standouts from Monday night’s battle between the Broncos and Bruins.
The leading scorer for the Broncos with 54 points off 28 goals and 26 assists through 14 games thus far, Williams is a well-balanced playmaker at the attack position. Not the biggest or strongest, he doesn’t necessarily win matchups with physicality but does so with his speed, quickness, and finesse. The senior tallied five points on Monday night, scoring two goals while also dishing out three assists. His most impressive play came late in the third quarter, grabbing a ground ball on the ride and pushing the issue up field for his second score of the day. It was the only goal of the third and made it a 7-5 game in favor of the Broncos.
Highlights
The sophomore helps make up a strong and athletic midfield shooting duo for Fredrick Douglass along with the likes of senior Alex Olivera. Possessing a good shooting stroke, he netted two on Monday night. His first goal came on a step-down look from the high wing and off a bouncer in the final minute of the first half. Seely’s second came late in the fourth as he got open up top and was found by Jake Williams Jake Williams 5’9″ | A Frederick Douglass | 2024 KY operating at X. In addition to his offensive exploits, Seely impressed as a short-stick defender who is able to match feet well and constantly cause havoc for the opposition.
Highlights
Standing 6’3 and 185 pounds, Hart has a great frame and takes up a lot of space in between the pipes. Having posted a 64% save percentage on the season thus far, he continued his stellar play on Monday night as he was locked in from start to finish. Facing a Ballard offense that can sling it from anywhere, he stood tall for 16 saves. He was particular hard for the Bruins to beat low. What sets Hart apart is his ability to play outside the cage as he makes good decisions in the clearing game and has the ability to take across the midline himself if needed.
Highlights
A dual-sport athlete who also plays long snapper in football, Risinger has marketed himself as one of the better pure shooters in the Bluegrass State. He is a leader within the Bruins offense with 44 goals on the season thus far. Risinger unleashed early on Monday night, scoring each of the first two goals of the game and having a first-half hat trick. He ended with five goals to lead Ballard. Able to score from anywhere, he most impressive when operating from the outside as he can beat his man and get downhill or stretch the defense and show his range.
Highlights
One of the most active poles on the night, Bryant was terrific for the Ballard defense. Bryant shows the ability to use his stick, body, and feet to matchup well against his opponent as an on-ball defender. He is also an active off-ball defender with his stick always up and in the passing lane. He caused multiple turnovers on Monday with intercepted passes that help keep the Broncos’ offense at bay. Bryant is also great off the ground and not afraid to cross the midfield line if needed.
